ELLA MCCAY and AS GOOD AS IT GETS Filmmaker Believes Jack Nicholson Could Come Back to Acting

Jack Nicholson May Not Be Finished with Acting
James L. Brooks has revealed that Jack Nicholson could be reading scripts and may come back to acting if the right project arose.
Jack Nicholson retired from acting a while back now. His last big screen effort was 2010’s box-office dud, How Do You Know. Nicholson’s former collaborator, director James L. Brooks, thinks that Nicholson is reading scripts and could make his way back to the acting game even though Nicholson has been retired for well over a decade now. Brooks made the acclaimed As Good as It Gets which was a comedy film that featured Nicholson in one of his three Oscar-winning roles. You may think Nicholson won for The Shining, but he didn’t. Nicholson’s other Oscars were for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Terms of Endearment.
How Do You Know filmmaker James L. Brooks has a new movie coming out this holiday season called Ella McCay. It stars Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Albert Brooks, Woody Harreslon, Ayo Edebiri, Rebecca Hall and Julie Kavner. Since James L. Brooks is coming back to directing films, many hope that if the new film is successful that Nicholson will be inspired to come back to the acting game.
Nicholson worked steadily in the early 2000’s with roles in box-office hits like Nancy Meyers’ Something’s Gotta Give, Marty Scorsese’s The Departed and Rob Reiner’s The Bucket List. He was constantly a box-office draw even though How Do You Know fizzled in theaters. To be fair, Nicholson has a smaller role in that picture which co-starred Paul Rudd and showcased a leading turn by Reese Witherspoon.
Nicholson may be enjoying retirement at 88-years old, but his fans would love to see him come back for a last hurrah. Many hope a return to the screen is on his own “bucket list.” Nicholson’s The Bucket List co-star, Morgan Freeman, also 88, has not stopped working and it would be interesting to see them make another movie together being that they’re old-time veterans of the silver screen. Of course, Nicholson has been acting in big projects since the original Little Shop of Horrors and Easy Rider days of the 1960’s.
Maybe, if James L. Brooks’ Ella McCay is a hit, it could inspire Nicholson to come back to the world of acting. It does seem Nicholson is content with his decision to retire, but the fact that he’s supposedly reading scripts certainly “raises an eyebrow.”

Jack Nicholson has always been known for being a ladies’ man and his project from 1987, The Witches of Eastwick, was one of his biggest blockbusters. In the film, he played opposite Susan Sarandon, Cher and Michelle Pfeiffer. Let’s hope the acclaimed Nicholson comes out for at least one last hurrah.
