FANTASTIC FOUR 2 (2017): 20th Century Fox Pulls Film From Release Schedule

Fox is Not Releasing Fantastic Four 2 in 2017 or in the Near Future. 20th Century Fox has officially pulled the sequel to Josh Trank‘s critically bashed and cash flow negative Fantastic Four off of its release calendar. The superhero film was supposed to be released on June 9, 2017 but that is no longer the case. Fantastic Four 2 can no longer be found on any upcoming release calendar for 20th Century Fox. This news comes as absolutely no surprise. The film’s director couldn’t bring himself to endorse the final version of the film (the one released in theaters). Fox doesn’t want to risk more of money on a series that under-performed at its outset.

There is light at the end of the Fantastic Four tunnel though via two avenues: 1.) the film could have been pulled so that it can be re-tooled, written, or re-written. Remember, the film has no director. Trank will not be returning after his ‘experience’ with Fox over the last year and a half, though Tommy Wiseau is willing to take it on, and 2.) if a Fantastic Four film is not made within a certain amount of time, the film rights will revert back to Marvel, who is waiting with bated breath to regain such a potentially lucrative property.

Fantastic Four starred Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Toby KebbellJamie Bell, Miles Teller, Jodi Lyn Brockton, Tim Blake Nelson, Reg E. Cathey, Chet Hanks, Gretchen Koerner, Christopher Heskey, Jerrad Vunovich, Shauna Rappold, Wayne Pére, and Jaylen Moore.

It is doubtful that any of the original film’s stars will return for the sequel if and when it happens, especially the four members of the Fantastic Four team. Fantastic Four 2 was supposed to be released two years from now. In four years, in six years, the Fantastic Four team will be even bigger stars than they already are, commanding even bigger paychecks and with tighter schedules. Some of them could even be shooting a TV series, which would eat up even more of their time. Most-likely, this Fantastic Four team will be released from their contracts in two or three years and a new team will be assembled from lower priced, up-and-comers, like they were when they made the original film.
