German actress Veronica Ferres (Sans famille, Les Misérables, Schtonk) has joined the cast of Pay the Ghost, the Nicolas Cage supernatural thriller…Uli Edel (The Baader Minhof Complex) is helming the pic, about a professor (Cage) who reunites with his estranged wife to track down the vengeful ghost who took their son years ago during a Halloween parade. Ferres will play a fellow professor and mentor to Cage who helps in the parents’ search for their child…Script is by Dan Kay, based on the short story by novelist Tim Lebbon.

The Stanford Prison Experiment

Brett Davern is shooting a role in Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s Tim Talbott-scripted The Stanford Prison Experiment…Davern is playing Hubbie Whitlow, an affable young participant who plans a failed escape attempt and suffers grueling humiliation at the hands of sadistic guards.

Namour

Karim Saleh (The Attack, The Imperialists Are Still Alive!), Mona Hala (Cairo Time), and Waleed Zuaiter (Omar) are set to star in Namour, the feature debut of writer-director Heidi Saman. Story follows Steven (Saleh), a young valet driver for a fashionable Los Angeles restaurant who fears that his temporary gig has somehow become permanent and what he took for a post­college rut is turning into his future.

The Mountain Between Us

Charlie Hunnam and…Margot Robbie are in talks to star for Paradise Now helmer Hany Abu-Assad in The Mountain Between Us for Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment. An adaptation of the Charles Martin book, the film is a harrowing tale of survival and a love story. Ashley is a writer catching a flight from Salt Lake City and heading East for her wedding. Ben is a doctor returning from a medical conference. When their flight is cancelled due to a broken de-icer, the strangers agree to charter a ride, only to see the pilot suffer a heart attack and crash into a desolate snowy mountain region. He breaks ribs and she suffers a leg fracture. Fortunately, aside from a doctor he’s an avid climber, and as he struggles to get her down from the mountain in harsh weather, she begins to realize that maybe she was headed to marry the wrong guy.

The project’s scripters include J. Mills Goodloe and Scott Frank.

The Secret In Their Eyes

Julia Roberts has been set to play the female lead in the Billy Ray-directed remake of The Secret In Their Eyes.

[Producers are] about to set the male lead, a former FBI agent. Roberts plays his friend and former partner. Her daughter is murdered, and the ex-agent can’t get over it. digs up the case years later when he thinks he’s found the guy who got away with it.

Live By Night

[Director] Ben Affleck…[is]…setting Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana and Elle Fanning to play the female leads in a film that reunites Affleck with Lehane, whose novel Gone Baby Gone served as Affleck’s superb feature directorial debut.

The focus is Joe Coughlin, the black-sheep son of a police captain who gets involved in escalating levels of organized crime.

Miller will play Emma, a girl Coughlin falls in love with at the beginning of the story. She also happens to be the girlfriend of his mobster boss. Saldana plays Graciella Suarez, a woman he meets later as he becomes involved in organized crime in Tampa. Fanning plays Loretta Figgis, a sheriff’s daughter and aspiring actress who gets into trouble.

Shadow of the Colossus

Andrés Muschietti…is taking the reins on Shadow of the Colossus for Sony Pictures. He’ll direct the adaptation of the acclaimed Playstation video game bestseller and oversee a script by Hanna writer Seth Lochhead.

Demolition

Naomi Watts have been set to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Demolition, the romantic drama to be directed by Dallas Buyers Club helmer Jean-Marc Vallee. Gyllenhaal…plays a young investment banker struggling to understand his emotional unraveling after the tragic death of his wife. Suddenly a woman he meets in a chance encounter changes his life forever.

Louder Than Bombs

Joachim Trier is kicking off production today on Louder Than Bombs…previously announced Gabriel Byrne, Jesse Eisenberg and Isabelle Huppert being joined by Amy Ryan, David Strathairn and newcomer Devin McKenzie Druid…[it centers] on Gene (Byrne) and his two sons (Eisenberg and Druid), three years after the death of their wife and mother (Huppert), an internationally celebrated photographer. As they return to the house all four lived in during the boys’ formative years, the three grapple with contrasting memories of the woman who influenced their lives so profoundly. In doing so, they begin to negotiate how best to live together, and uncover the mystery that informed her life.

Director’s Cut

Missi Pyle (The Artist, Gone Girl) has boarded Director’s Cut, a dark satire with an unusual twist directed by Detroit Rock City‘s Adam Rifkin. Pyle will play herself opposite Penn Jillette (Tim’s Vermeer, The Aristocrats) in the Being John Malkovich-style tale about a psycho superfan (Jillette) who buys a walk-on role to Pyle’s latest movie via a crowdfunding site, then kidnaps her and forces her to re-shoot the film in his own dungeon studio.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies

Douglas Booth is joining the cast of the classic lit mash-up Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, adapted from Seth Grahame-Smith’s parody novel…In the Burr Steers-helmed Pride And Prejudice And Zombies he’ll play Bingley. L, the good-natured and wealthy pal of Mr. Darcy.

Emma Greenwell has joined the cast of “Pride Prejudice and Zombies”…Greenwell, who is in Showtime’s “Shameless,” will play [Douglas Booth]’s sister in the pic.

Paper Towns

Jake Schreier…has been tapped to direct Paper Towns, the latest adaptation of a novel by super-hot YA author John Green.

Green is the writer of The Fault in Our Stars, and the film reunites Fault’s Nat Wolff with screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.

Driving Dick Kelly 

Zac Efron and Robert De Niro are attached to star in “Driving Dick Kelly,” an adult comedy formerly known as “Dirty Grandpa” that Dan Mazer will direct

John Phillips wrote the script, which follows a lascivious, recently widowed Army veteran (De Niro) who tricks his uptight grandson (Efron) into escorting him to Florida for spring break.
