The potential pilot episode leading to a potential prequel TV series was set 1000 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It is doubtful that pilot, whether it has been completed or not, will never air or see the light of day (much like the original Game of Thrones pilot episode).
It is said that the prequel pilot episode cancellation “comes after a lengthy post-production and rumors about issues during filming in Northern Ireland.”
The prequel pilot episode was written by George R. R. Martin and Jane Goldman with Goldman acting as the series’ showrunner.
Goldman has emailed the cast and crew of the Game of Thrones prequel pilot episode, referred to by some as The Long Night, to tell them that the pilot is not moving forward and is in-effect dead.
