HIGH RISE (2015) Movie Images: Jeremy Irons & Tom Hiddleston in Thatcher’s England

High Rise Movie Images Arrive

High Rise Movie Images Have Been Released. It seems like we’re usually treated to a trailer first, then as the road to release spreads out before us, it’s paved with movie images and alternate posters, etc. In the case of Ben Wheatley‘s High Rise, however, we’re getting a few movie images before anything else.

What we do know of the film is all positive, exciting information. Wheatley’s directing Elisabeth Moss, Jeremy Irons, Tom Hiddleston, and Luke Evans. The plot description isn’t too shabby, either. According to Slashfilm, “Laing, a young doctor, joins a community in a luxury building in Thatcher’s England, who exile themselves from society and gradually divide into violent tribes.”

The most exciting filmmaker behind this project is Clint Mansell, for me, at this moment. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live in an old church here in New York, and after hearing an amalgamation of his entire life’s work, reflecting on all those Darren Aronofsky scores, his genius was cemented for me. I can’t wait for more music from this man, and it seems that Wheatley’s movie will be the next time we’ll get some.

Slashfilm also has a more detailed synopsis, which provides some more nuance than the previous one: “1975. Two miles west of London, Dr. Robert Laing moves into his new apartment seeking soulless anonymity, only to find that the building’s residents have no intention of leaving him alone. Resigned to the complex social dynamics unfolding around him, Laing bites the bullet and becomes neighborly. As he struggles to establish his position, Laing’s good manners and sanity disintegrate along with the building. The lights go out and the lifts fail but the party goes on. People are the problem. Booze is the currency. Sex is the panacea.”

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
