Blackfish

Magnolia Pictures has announced its plans to release the award-nominated film Blackfish (2013) on November 12, 2013. The Gabriela Cowperthwaite-directed project received a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. The documentary examines the orca, also known as killer whale, in its natural habitat and in an abundance of marine theme parks and study facilities across the world. Incredibly intelligent, usually gentle, and majestic in their bearing, orcas also have a propensity to kill, though usually only other marine mammals—including other orcas. Cowperthwaite also touches on the history of Tilikum, an orca in captivity at Sea World who has the notorious history of having killed several of his trainers.
