Donovan Marsh‘s Hunter Killer (2018) movie trailer stars Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Common, Linda Cardellini, Toby Stephens, and Michael Nyqvist. Hunter Killer‘s plot synopsis: “Deep under the Arctic Ocean, American submarine Captain Joe Glass (Gerard Butler) is on the hunt for a U.S. sub in distress when he discovers a secret Russian coup is in the offing, threatening to dismantle the world order. With crew and country on the line, Captain Glass must now assemble an elite group of Navy SEALs to rescue the kidnapped Russian president and sneak through enemy waters to stop WWIII.”

I like the plot to this film, especially a specific twist between the United States and Russia, but the film has more of a comic book feel than a The Hunt for Red October resonance. The latter would have benefited Hunter Killer.

Hunter Killer also stars Zane Holtz, Michael Trucco, Corey Johnson, Caroline Goodall, Ryan McPartlin, Shane Taylor, and Cosmo Jarvis.
