Jake Kasdan‘s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) U.S. and international movie trailer stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Missi Pyle. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s plot synopsis: “In a brand new Jumanji adventure, the tables are turned as four teenagers are sucked into Jumanji’s world – pitted against rhinos, black mambas and an endless variety of jungle traps and puzzles.

To survive, they’ll play as characters from the game: meek Spencer becomes a braveexplorer (Dwayne Johnson); hulky jock Fridge becomes a tiny genius (Kevin Hart); It-girl Bethany becomes a bookworm professor (Jack Black); and unathletic Martha becomes an amazonian warrior (Karen Gillan). To beat the game and return to the real world with their lives, they’ll have to start seeing things in an entirely different way.”

When I first saw the official first image for Jumanji 2, a prequel / sequel / reboot of the original Robin Williams‘ film, I was extremely skeptical. There was even a brouhaha about Karen Gillan’s skimpy outfit, though producers of the film promised that everything would be explained in the film. They were right. The outfit was explained and fits with the theme and the environment of the film.

I liked the beginning of the trailer and the premise of going into a video game more than actually seeing that premise realized. I am not downing Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle for being inventive. I like the use of avatars and the fish-out-of-water screenplay device. I just wish Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was more TRON than Pixels.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle also stars Bobby Cannavale, Rhys Darby, Tim Matheson, Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Danny Pardo, Maribeth Monroe, Juan Gaspard, and Friday Chamberlain.
