ViQueens (2026): Ketchup Media to distribute Norwegian animated epic

Ketchup Media acquires the distribution rights to ViQueens

Upcoming animated feature ViQueens gets a US distributor in Ketchup Media.

The ones who saved Coyote vs. Acme (2026) will be bringing a new adventure to the big screen across the US. The independent distributor, Ketchup Media, has recently announced it has acquired the US distribution rights to the upcoming Norwegian 3D-animated film ViQueens, produced and animated by Karve Animations.

ViQueens, directed by Harald Zwart, known for directing The Karate Kid (2010) and The 12th Man (2017), follows two courageous Viking girls as they travel from Norway to China to bring a lost boy all the way home, and on the way learn more about the world by the many different people and magic they meet along the way. The film is geared towards an international audience and is written as a celebration of multiple different cultures and communities.

Lending its voice to the cast is Ella Purnell, who played Jynx in the critically acclaimed Arcane (2021), and Rita Ora, a multitalented actress and songstress best known for her song “Carry On” in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019). The two will play the Viking leads who sail around, accompanied by a score by the award-winning composer Christophe Beck, best known for his work on Frozen (2013), Frozen 2 (2019), and other Marvel and Disney properties.

When speaking to Deadline about the deal, Zwart said, “From the beginning, Veslemøy and I wanted to create a Viking story that felt fresh and unexpected, one filled with adventure, humor and heart, but also with a spirit of curiosity and cultural connection. Ketchup immediately understood what we wanted the film to be, and we are thrilled to have them as our U.S. partner”

Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, was also ecstatic about the film, saying in a press release. “This is exactly the kind of film we love to champion – an ambitious, original animated story with a strong cinematic identity and an outstanding cast.”

The first part of Ketchup Mediaʻs distribution plan is to introduce future audiences to the film by having trailers for the film premiere before each upcoming showing of Coyote vs. Acme, which should generate some interest considering it is expected to make over 60 million dollars at the box office during its run.

The US release date for ViQueens has not been announced yet, but the film will premiere in its homeland, Norway, on December 25th this year and in other international theatres via Sola Media.
