The Focus Features and Working Title production will now open next spring

Edgar Wright’s upcoming psychological thriller Last Night in Soho (2021) will now open stateside on April 23, 2021. The film was originally set to open on September 25, 2020.

According to Wright on Twitter, he has been unable to finish post-production on the film due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Focus Features, the film’s co-financier and U.S. distributor, has opted to delay the film’s fall release to spring. This makes Last Night in Soho the latest in the long list of film productions and releases delayed due to COVID-19.

As consolation to his fans for the extended wait, Wright posted a photo from the film featuring stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith in a pensive embrace.

The plot of Last Night in Soho is being kept under wraps, but it is rumored to contain elements of time travel, body swapping, and a 1960s London setting. Wright has also cited Nicholas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion as inspirations for the film.

When interviewed back in February, Taylor-Joy said of her initial reactions to the film:

It’s very claustrophobic. The colors are so intense. It’s a really well-directed acid trip. I think people will really like it. You definitely will not be bored.

Cast & Crew

Last Night in Soho is directed by Wright, from a script co-written by Wright and Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
