MacGyver Trailer

CBSMacGyver (2016) TV show trailer stars Lucas Till, George Eads, Justin Hires, Sandrine Holt, and Tristin Mays. MacGyver‘s plot synopsis: “A reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus “Mac” MacGyver who creates a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.”

I do not think that this reboot will ever reach a second season. Giving Mac a Scooby Doo Crew may have been a good idea. It diversified the show so that it didn’t just rely on one character and his charisma to carry an episode. The problem is that the Scooby Doo Crew kills the central premise of the previous TV series – MacGyver thinking his way out of precarious with no one to rely on but his own intelligence and ingenuity.

There is also the Scorpion factor. Scorpion is doing what the MacGyver reboot is attempting to do – rogues led by a genius – far better. People are going to ask themselves (when both series are on the air), why watch a CGI-heavy MacGyver reboot when I can watch down-to-earth Scorpion?
