NO TIME TO DIE (2020): Billie Eilish to Perform BOND 25 Theme Song

Billie Eilish No Time To Die 01

Pop singer Billie Eilish will provide No Time to Die’s Theme Song

Billie Eilish will perform the theme song for No Time to Die, the 25th entry in the James Bond franchise. The pop icon will sing the song, which she wrote alongside her brother and fellow musician Finneas.

According to Variety, the news was confirmed this morning by the film’s producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, of EON Productions. Wilson and Broccoli have classified the song as “incredibly powerful and moving”, and that it “has been impeccably crafted to work within the emotional story of the film.”

Eilish’s social media team has also confirmed her selection, via Twitter.

“It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way,” Eilish released in a further statement. “To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honor. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.”

At 18 years old, Eilish will be the youngest artist ever to perform a Bond theme song. This comes on the heels of her similar win in the Guinness World Records, for “Youngest female at No. 1 on UK Albums chart”. Eilish is having a stellar year, with her debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” being two-times-certified platinum and topping both year-end and decades-end charts. She is also up for six prizes at the forthcoming 62nd Grammy Awards, including “Album of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, and “Best New Artist”.

Rumors over which artist would be chosen to perform the next Bond theme were circling for a while. Dua Lipa was a name being tossed around earlier this month, but nothing was confirmed. Eilish herself was feeding into the rumor mill as recent as this morning, via her Instagram story. There, she had posted pictures of Eva Green, Halle Berry, and Léa Seydoux – all former or current Bond girls – which was a surefire hint – before the official announcement came later in the day.

This is the second piece of music-related Bond news to break in the past couple of weeks. The first came last Monday, when it was announced that Hans Zimmer was taking over composing duties from Dan Romer.

No Time to Die is direct by Cary Joji Fukunaga and stars Daniel Craig, Seydoux, Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, and Naomie Harris. It opens wide from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and United Artists Releasing on April 10, 2020.
