Power Rangers International Trailer 2

Lionsgate and Saban Films have released the second international movie trailer for Power Rangers (2017). It is both hard and not very hard to believe that this film actually exists. From a marketing and name recognition standpoint, I totally understand the impetus behind this film and all the fiscal dreams that are resting on its shiny plastic shoulders.

Lionsgate and Saban Films want a tent-pole that turns into a franchise along the lucrative lines of The Fast and The Furious franchise. What The Fast and The Furious had going for it was a Point Break feel and Vin Diesel‘s on-screen charisma. Power Rangers has a generic feel, CGI villains (save for the main villain), and no focal point on the hero side of things for the viewer to latch on to. All of the Rangers seem two-dimensional at best (I am being very kind here).

Power Rangers‘ plot synopsis: “Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.”

Dean Israelite‘s Power Rangers stars Clayton Chitty, Lisa Berry, Anjali Jay, Elizabeth Banks, Dacre Montgomery, Bryan Cranston, Bill Hader, David Denman, Sarah Grey, Emily Maddison, Caroline Cave, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Becky G, and Ludi Lin.
