Inspired by a true story, the Netflix drama is set in the chaotic aftermath of the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, and it tells the life story of Sergio Vieira de Mello (played by Moura), a well-respected U.N. diplomat who finds his life in grave danger after being sent on a diplomatic mission to Baghdad, just as the region faces a savage war.

Cast and crew

Sergio also stars Will Dalton, Clemens Schick, Katia Kieling, Alice Assef, Sameera Asir, Nadeem Srouji, Vithaya Pansringarm, and Sahajak Boonthanakit.

Craig Borten wrote the screenplay for the film.
