SHE-HULK: Tatiana Maslany cast as Marvel Hero Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk in Disney+’s TV Series
Tatiana Maslany cast as She-Hulk in Disney+ TV Series
Tatiana Maslany has been cast in She-Hulk on Disney’s streaming service Disney+. Maslany has been cast as lead character Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk, “a lawyer who, after an injury, received an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner, and acquired a milder version of his Hulk condition. As such, Walters becomes a large, powerful green-hued version of herself; however, unlike Banner, she still largely retains her personality – in particular, she retains the majority of her intelligence and emotional control, although like Hulk, she is still susceptible to outbursts of temper and becomes much stronger if enraged.”
More on Maslany:
Tatiana Gabriele Maslany…is a Canadian actress. She is known for portraying multiple characters in the science fiction television series Orphan Black (2013–2017), which aired on Space in Canada and BBC America in the United States. For her performance in Orphan Black, Maslany won a Primetime Emmy Award (2016), a TCA Award (2013), two Critics’ Choice Awards (2013 and 2014), and five Canadian Screen Awards (2014–18), in addition to receiving nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Maslany is the first Canadian actor to win an Emmy in a major dramatic category for work in a Canadian series.
Mark Ruffalo, who portrays Dr. Bruce Banner / Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, celebrated the news of Maslany’s casting with this tweet:
Welcome to the family, cuz! @tatianamaslany #SheHulk https://t.co/VXcaE9Fine
— Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) September 17, 2020
Jessica Gao will lead the writers room and will help craft the screenplays for this superhero TV series. Kat Coiro will direct the pilot episode and six other episodes of She-Hulk.
The TV series notwithstanding, She-Hulk is bound to show up in the cinematic universe of Marvel. Her character and the diversity that she could bring to the MCU is a narrative and visual-shot-of-invigoration that Marvel will not let pass them by.
