SPIDERMAN (2017): The Russos Explain The Reason Behind Casting Tom Holland

Tom Holland Spiderman

The Russos Explains Their Decision in Choosing Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Tom Holland’s casting as Spider-Man made all the craze, and you can thank directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo for that. They open up on why they picked Tom to play the young web-slinger.

Captain America: Civil War will introduce Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it was thanks to the film’s directors in picking the young British actor in the coveted role. Talking with Entertainment Weekly, the Russos touched upon the process of choosing their Peter Parker. “We did two screen tests with the character. We were pretty vocal about who we wanted for the part,” Joe said, referring to Tom Holland’s work in The Impossible when asked why they went for him for the part. “He’s fantastic. Amazing. It’s like Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun. Rarely do you see a kid carry a movie like that.”

The directing duo was also impressed with Holland’s physical prowess, which the actor showed off on his Instagram “He’s also a dancer and a gymnast. He fits the part like you can’t believe. Another thing that we were really pushing for was to go young with the part. It’s the only way to differentiate it from what’s been done in the past. Get him as close as you can to the age that [the actor] is.”

What do you all think? Has the directors made the right call in casting Holland for the part?
