CBS All AccessStar Trek: Discovery: Season 2 TV show trailer and spin-off news comes from the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con International.

Short Trek

Following the success of the first season of Star Trek: Discovery and its renewal, CBS All Access has ordered a short-form spin-off series for Star Trek: Discovery. The spin-off will be called Short Treks. There will be four episodes in the series and each will be ten to fifteen minutes each. Short Treks will look into the backstories of key characters, themes, and situations in the Star Trek: Discovery universe.

Star Trek: Discovery Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman gave a little more detail on Short Treks: “Each episode will deliver closed-ended stories while revealing clues about what’s to come on in future STAR TREK: DISCOVERY episodes. They’ll also introduce audiences to new characters who may inhabit the larger world of ‘Star Trek.’”

Rainn Wilson will return to play Harry Mudd in a short he will also direct, and Aldis Hodge will star in another as Craft, a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship. Additional episodes include a deep dive into Saru’s (Doug Jones) backstory as the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, and Tilly’s (Mary Wiseman) journey aboard the U.S.S. Discovery and her friendship with an unlikely partner.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2

The trailer shows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) taking control of the U.S.S. Discovery and the crew getting into new adventures with a rock and roll soundtrack playing in the background.

Star Trek: Discovery‘s plot synopsis: “Ten years before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise, the USS Discovery discovers new worlds and lifeforms as one Starfleet officer learns to understand all things alien.”

Along side Anson Mount, a new Star Trek: Discovery: Season 2 cast addition is Rebecca Romijn.
