STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (2017): #ThankYouRianJohnson Trending on Twitter by Fans Following THE RISE OF SKYWALKER’s Release
#ThankYouRianJohnson Trending on Twitter for Rian Johnson and Star Wars The Last Jedi
Fans of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) made their voices heard today on Twitter with #ThankYouRianJohnson. Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the most divisive Star Wars film ever released. It’s number of detractors are numerous but today has shown that a gaggle of Star Wars fans are fans of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
I am one of those detractors (e.g. Mary Poppins moment is foundation-less garbage to me) and was surprised by today’s show of support for Johnson’s Star Wars film but I am also happy about it. Johnson has had the stuffing beaten out of him for the last two years on social media, in print, and on YouTube.
When he has spoken out or fought back, it has just gotten worse. Today, en masse, Johnson’s has gotten the Star Wars love that he always wanted (with naysayers as well). I can’t imagine what he is feeling today. It has to be some type of vindication and outright happiness.
This is one hell of a Christmas present to Johnson, belated by two years though it may be, that’s for sure.
Here are what some people are saying on Twitter using hashtag #ThankYouRianJohnson (new tweets are popping up every few minutes):

#thankyourianjohnson for crafting such an incredible, fascinating, and challenging Star Wars story. And for giving us the best possible arcs we could’ve asked for Luke, Rey, Ben, Leia, and the rest. pic.twitter.com/WRvo6TxfXu

I talk about @rianjohnson movies a lot, especially with Knives Out last month, so naturally my best friends gave me this for Christmas…#ThankYouRianJohnson pic.twitter.com/ovY9Fgbf1a

#thankyourianjohnson for directing Ozymandias, the greatest episode of the greatest television series ever. Brick is also pretty great. Can’t wait for more SW content!

I absolutely loved every moment of Star Wars episode 9. #ThankYouRianJohnson for the perfect setup. @jjabrams managed to bring the saga to a fine conclusion and was probably helped by the misdirects in TLJ. Well done to you both. I can’t wait to watch it again. Merry Christmas!?

I love The Last Jedi. It is my favorite Star Wars movie, and I love the risks it takes and the things it says. It might not be perfect, but the characters are deep and flawed, and it has heart, badassery and intelligence. #thankyourianjohnson pic.twitter.com/PJpL8OVaUk

#thankyourianjohnson For not only creating my favorite Star Wars movie, but also your other work. My husband & I are still talking about Knives Out & what a creative take it was on a whodunit w/ a strong moral compass in the central character. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

#thankyourianjohnson For having the courage to tell a bold story, rather than painting by numbers and working off a checklist. And for respecting our intelligence, instead of feeling you had to dumb it down. Thank you for prioritizing art over money, and for honoring the myth. pic.twitter.com/o9jlaVdgDr
