Daisy Ridley Confirms Rey’s Parentage was in Flux for Disney’s Trilogy
Daisy Ridley on Jimmy Kimmel Live in an interview with Josh Gad admitted that Rey’s parentage across Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was in a constant state of turnover. In one moment, Ridley was told Rey might be a Kenobi and the next, she was told she was a Palpatine.
The incompetence of the narrative in Disney Star Wars‘ trilogy has been obvious to many critics and fans since The Last Jedi fell with a splat into movie theaters. The producer of Disney’s Star Wars trilogy didn’t outline the trilogy before filming began. They had no idea where any of the character arcs were going. Case and point – Rey.
Ridley said this during the interview:
“At the beginning, there was toying with an Obi-Wan connection. There were different versions, and then it really went to ‘she was no one.’ And then it came to Episode IX and J.J. pitched me the film and was like, ‘Oh yeah, Palpatine’s grandaddy,’ and I was like, ‘Awesome.’ And two weeks later he was like, ‘Oh, we’re not sure…’ So he kept changing. Even while filming, I wasn’t sure what the answer was going to be.”

Daisy Ridley was supposed to be Rey Kenobi, then Rey Nobody and then Rey Palpatine in the worst planned and written trilogy in the history of cinema. Kathleen Kennedy, @rianjohnson and @jjabrams, everyday more proof is surfacing on how you blew it.pic.twitter.com/ol5nAAPkpD
