Plot Synopsis

Stardust‘s plot synopsis: “David Bowie is one of the most seminal legends in music history; but who was the man behind the many faces? In 1971, a 24-year-old fledgling David Bowie (Johnny Flynn) is sent to America to promote his newest record, The Man Who Sold the World. Leaving behind his pregnant wife Angie (Jena Malone), Bowie and his band embark on a makeshift coast-to-coast promotional tour with struggling Mercury Records publicist Rob Oberman (Marc Maron).”

Backstory

Taking place in 1971, the film chronicles the 24-year-old Bowie’s first-ever trip to America with his somewhat neurotic publicist Ron Oberman of Mercury records (Marc Maron) to promote his then-latest record The Man Who Sold the World. Oberman initially had very strong doubts about that record and feared that neither that nor Bowie himself would be so well-received by the American fans. That compelled Bowie to create his Ziggy Stardust persona, which helped his career reach its turning point and skyrocket internationally well beyond the confines of his native England. Bowie drew inspiration for the character from sources such as his fascination with all things space, Japanese theater, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and Andy Warhol. Glam rock arguably originated from the birth of Ziggy. Also starring is Jena Maloneas Angie Bowie, who was married to David from 1970 to 1980 and also helped with the concept art for the Ziggy Stardust’s onstage costumes. No other information for the plot synopses is known at this time, as those unfamiliar with the Ziggy Stardust concept or even Bowie’s career in general should just wait and watch the film to get a better understanding.
