STONEWALL (2015) Movie Trailer: Roland Emmerich Fights for Gay Rights

Stonewall Trailer

Stonewall Movie Trailer. Roland Emmerich‘s Stonewall (2015) movie trailer stars Jonathan Rhys MeyersJoey KingRon Perlman, and Jeremy Irvine. Stonewall‘s plot synopsis: “A young man’s political awakening and coming of age during the days and weeks leading up to the Stonewall Riots.”

The Stonewall riots are a major moment in the history of gay rights in America. They are important, and contextualize much of what was to come thereafter. In that sense, it’s only natural for this film to be made and challenge mainstream audiences with its content (I’m assuming most of America is still very much homophobic and aggressively anti-gay). On the other hand, it looks about as bland as anything I’ve watched for two minutes in months.

What I like about this trailer is the heavily stylized New York City in the 1960s atmosphere. This is one of those times where I actually think the soft, colorful backdrops add an effective, beautiful layer to the whole thing. In any case, I’m glad a gay director spearheaded this project, but it frankly doesn’t look too interesting.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
