First Photos of Melissa Benoist as Supergirl Gets Released. With the pilot for CBSSupergirl already in production this week, the show has finally taken off and to show off their leading lady, we have our first look at Melissa Benoist in costume as Supergirl with some official photos.

Released by DC Entertainment, the new costume has the traditional blue and red colors of Supergirl with the logo reminiscent of the Man of Steel himself. The costume also comes with a skirt, boots, and a long cape going down to the ankles. The costume was made by Colleen Atwood, who is known for designing costumes for other DC shows like Arrow and The Flash. “In designing Supergirl,” Atwood says in a statement, “I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today.”

The pilot episode is being helmed by by Glen Winter, a director known directing episodes from other DC shows like Smallville, Arrow, and The Flash.

Supergirl follows 24-year-old Kara Danvers who has been hiding her powers for a decade since being brought up on Earth after the destruction of her home planet Krypton. After an impending disaster, Kara realizes she must embrace her powers and head toward the road of heroism. Supergirl also stars Mehcad Brooks, Laura Benanti, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Jeremy Jordan, and Dean Cain and Helen Slater in undisclosed roles.
