Supergirl Will End after its Sixth Season Finale

Supergirl: Season 6 will be the finale season of the superhero The CW TV series. With the show experiencing declining ratings and delays (Covid-19 and Melissa Benoist‘s pregnancy), “the producers, the studio, the network and Benoist came to a decision that it was better to end the show with a longer final season.”

The other reasons notwithstanding, if the ratings were steadily declining, ending things before the average viewers per episode dropped below a million was probably a good thing:

Season 1 average viewers – 12.96 million

Season 2  average viewers – 3.06 million

Season 3 average viewers – 1.87 million

Season 4 average viewers – 1.52 million

Season 5 average viewers – 1.26 million

Though Season 6 was scheduled to be twenty episodes long, because this is the final season, the episode order number might be increased so Supergirl can have a lengthy send-off.

With Superman and Lois about to premiere in 2021, I have no doubt that Benoist’s Supergirl may make a guest appearance or two on the new comic book TV series.
