TENET: Warner Bros. Delays Christopher Nolan Film Indefinitely; Will Treat as Non-traditional Release

Tenet’s Theatrical Release Delayed Indefinitely by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has indefinitely delayed the theatrical release date for Tenet. Seen as another casualty of the Cornovirus (Convid-19) surging in certain states within the United States (Texas, California, Florida), Tenet now has no release after its previous theatrical release dates were moved twice (first to July 31, 2020 and then to August 12, 2020).

Since California is a major United States market for theatrical released films and Governor Gavin Newsom has just ordered that movie theaters, indoor restaurants, and bars close throughout the state, Warner Bros.’s “indefinite” move with Tenet is a mitigation tactic, one that may be successful if Warner Bros. picks the right time to release their film.

Warner Bros.’s best move would be to shift the film to the second or third quarter of 2021 but they have something else in mind – nebulous flexibility. Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich said this: “We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.”

Plot Synopsis

Tenet‘s plot synopsis: “Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.

Not time travel. Inversion.

Cast and crew

Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Clémence Poésy, Himesh Patel, Andrew Howard, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Martin Donovan, Carina Velva, Dimple Kapadia, Jonathan Camp, and Katie McCabe.
