Charlotte Gainsbourg to Win Golden Eye Award at Premiere of Film

Veteran character actress, Charlotte Gainsbourg, is slated to receive the Golden Eye award at the Zurich Film Festival on September 26th.

Charlotte Gainsbourg was on the cover of Time Out New York magazine back in the summer of 2002 and it’s been a non-stop ride of acclaim and notoriety for the actress ever since. Now, she’s starring opposite Rebel Wilson in The Almond and the Seahorse and picking up a coveted Golden Eye award at the Zurich Film Festival where the film will be premiering.

Perhaps, Gainsbourg’s biggest claim to fame is the work she has done for acclaimed filmmaker Lars von Trier. For the 2009 von Trier film, Antichrist, actress Gainsbourg won big time at the Cannes Film Festival with an award for Best Actress. She later worked for the same controversial director on the back-to-back movies, Nymphomaniac: Vol. I and Nymphomaniac: Vol. II and, as a result, she was deemed one of the most risk-taking actresses working in cinema. It didn’t hurt that her performances in all three films were provocative and rich. Gainsbourg also co-starred in von Trier’s Melancholia.

In 2003, Gainsbourg appeared in the critically acclaimed masterpiece from Alejandro G. Inarritu, 21 Grams, where she played opposite Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Naomi Watts. That movie helped launch Gainsbourg into stardom with her complex supporting performance in the movie.

Gainsbourg first hit it big with her part in Claude Millers’ L’Effrontee when she was just 14 years old. Now, Gainsbourg is appearing with Wilson in The Almond and the Seahorse which will be screened following the presentation of the Golden Eye award to the prestigious performer who has proven time and time again that she is willing to take huge risks with the parts she chooses.

The acclaimed actress is also a musician. She is a songwriter as well. Her movie, The Almond and the Seahorse is based on a stage work from 2008 and has become a curiosity piece due to the fact that Rebel Wilson has a principal part in the film. Keep in mind Wilson is known mostly for her goofy comedies like Pitch Perfect.

It is a genuine triumph for Gainsbourg to be awarded the Golden Eye at next month’s Zurich Film Festival. She is one of the strongest actresses working today and her time to be rewarded accordingly has finally arrived.  Her work in Lars von Trier’s movies itself is a testament to the power of strong female roles and with actresses like her working today, we can rest assured that brave, daring performances continue to emerge from modern day cinema.
