THE FLASH: Hartley Sawyer Fired from the DC Superhero TV Show Over Past Derogatory Tweets [The CW]

Hartley Sawyer fired from The Flash Over Past Derogatory Tweets

Season Seven of The Flash will not feature Ralph Dibny / Elongated Man (Hartley Sawyer). Sawyer has been fired from The CW superhero TV show because of a number of derogatory, racist, and misogynist tweets that Sawyer made 2011-2014. I won’t be republishing those tweets because they are pretty bad. Director James Gunn‘s tweets were bad as well but these tweets could be perceived as worse. Coupled with the current mood in America, Sawyer and any type of forgiveness for his previously-held mindset did not stand a chance.

The Flash executive producer Eric Wallace had this to say regarding the situation and the firing:

Hartley Sawyer responded to the firing on Instagram and issued a apology:

When Leslye Headland got tapped to write a new Star Wars TV series for Disney+, she knew she would come under intense public scrutiny so she erased hundreds of past tweets from her account. She had learned from what happened to James Gunn and avoided that scenario. Hartley Sawyer didn’t (he never should have made those tweets in the first place – what possessed him to do that or to think those thoughts?) and now he is a former cast member of one of the most superhero TV series on television.
