The Pillars of the Earth Television Trailer has premiered. The Pillars of the Earth mini-series is directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan and stars Ian McShane, Donald Sutherland, Rufus Sewell,  Hayley Atwell, Matthew Macfadyen, Sarah Parish, David Oakes. The Pillars of the Earth “is set against a backdrop of war, religious strife and power struggles which tears lives and families apart. In that time, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge. Against the backdrop, love-stories entwine: Tom, the master builder, Aliena, the noblewoman, the sadistic Lord William, Philip, the prior of Kingsbridge, Jack, the artist in stone work and Ellen, the woman from the forest who casts a curse. At once, this is a sensuous and enduring love story and an epic that shines with the fierce spirit of a passionate age. Follett masterfully weaves these stories through political turmoil of 12th century England, creating a relevant and viable world for today’s audience and for generations to come.” I have been looking forward to and dreading The Pillars of the Earth to be adapted for years. I have read the Ken Follet book twice and the book was better the second time. Are all books better the second time around? I do not like some of the obvious modification made to the storyline in bringing it to the screen but hopefully they will be for the better. They certainly picked the right actress to play Aliena (Hayley Atwell). I wonder how the young Jack and the burning sequence will come off. The Pillars of the Earth 8-part mini series will premiere on Starz on Jul 23, 2010.
