The Villainess Trailer

Byung-gil Jung‘s The Villainess / AK-Nyeo (2017) movie trailer stars Ok-bin Kim, Seo-hyung Kim, Ha-kyun Shin, and Jun Sung. The Villainess‘ plot synopsis: “Trained to be an assassin in Yanbian, China, from a very young age, Sook-hee has only ever known a life of killing. When South Korea’s Intelligence Agency captures her following a bloody gun-and-knife fight with an entire gang (whom she dispatches single-handedly), she is given the chance to use her deadly skills as a sleeper agent.

After an intense rehabilitation and schooling process, she takes on a new name and identity. Soon, she begins to realize that the path of a killer is a not just a lonely road but also one that might be without return. Hope appears in the form of a young, handsome neighbor (Sung Joon). But a man from her violent past also makes an unexpected reappearance (Shin Ha-Kyun). This is not just another twisted Korean revenge thriller— it’s a reinvention of action cinema.”

The action in this trailer is pretty intense. I don’t know if I like or not the P.O.V. aspects of The Villainess but then again, I haven’t exactly seen a P.O.V. action film besides the five minutes or so of it in Doom. I have not seen Hardcore Henry yet. The only other P.O.V. exposure that I have had is the Insane Office Escape short film.

The other aspects of the film I like a lot. Some of it reminded me of La Femme Nikita. It was the drama in the trailer that drew me in, how Sook-hee (Ok-bin Kim) eventually became torn between the life that she wanted and the one that she was obligated to maintain.
