THE WALKING DEAD: Season 6 TV Show Featurette: Off the Chain [AMC]

TV show featurette delves into season 6 trailer for AMC’s The Walking Dead. If I were to ascribe a theme, to the 2015 Comic Con season, it would be ‘keep the hype going.’ This year, it has been less about the next new thing, and more about what’s next for established franchises (I will include BvS: DoJ, here; I won’t get into why, just yet). One such season highlight was the debut of an over 4 minute long trailer, at the San Diego convention, for season 6 of TWD. The events, as depicted in that trailer, set many a fan speculating not just on the future of Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) Roadies, and Deanna’s (Tovah Feldshuh) Townies, but also on the future of Rick’s relationship with Morgan (Lennie James).

A new BTS featurette, while not entirely clarifying such speculations, does deconstruct much of what that trailer has shown of the upcoming season. Andrew Lincoln, Lennie James, Steven Yeun, Seth Gilliam, Danai Gurira, and Norman Reedus join showrunners Greg Nicotero, Denise Huth, and Dave Alpert, to discuss the nature of some of the sixth season’s happenings.

As with the trailer, the featurette picks up where season 5 left off: with Deanna unleashing Rick, and Morgan coming in on Rick checking Porch Dick Pete out. Of course that moment didn’t settle things, between the Roadies & the Townies. The featurette commentary offers useful insight on, among other things, where that Rick & Deanna moment leads, the nature of the ongoing Roadie-Townie divide, and context to Morgan’s now expanded role.

When Andrew Lincoln, himself, alludes to his character as a “madman,” and episodic turns as going “off the chain,” domestication/ stagnation seems like much less of a season 6 pitfall than some fans of TWD’s road game may have feared, going into the Alexandria arc. Just as well, the source material has the cast staying in Alexandria for… a while.
