THE WOLVERINE 3 (2017): Hugh Jackman Confirms Final Wolverine Film

Hugh Jackman Dr. Oz

Hugh Jackman Says Third Wolverine Film to Be His Final One. It was teased that Hugh Jackman would hang up with claws for good on his Instagram and even director James Mangold confirmed it. If you think it’s all rumors, think again as the Australian actor confirmed it himself.

While at the Dr. Oz Show this week, Hugh Jackman confirmed that the next Wolverine film coming out in 2017 would be his final one. There has been news going out that Bryan Singer would move the franchise forward after X-Men: Apocalypse by focusing more on the new cast playing younger versions of characters like Cyclops and Jean Grey. So it’s only natural that The Wolverine 3 will close out the clawed mutant’s story that started in 2000’s X-Men.

“It is my last time,” Jackman told Dr. Oz in an interview this week. Jackman confirmed his exit, citing that it was only a matter of time before he knew that it would be over for him to play Wolverine.

It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.

With Jackman leaving the role, it’s not clear whether or not Fox will cast a new Wolverine or put the character on the shelf for a few years. It’s certainly upsetting to see him go, but it’s about time. Are you sad that Jackman won’t be playing Wolverine much longer? What do you think should happen to the character?

The third Wolverine film is expected to release on March 3, 2017.
