The X-Files is Returning for a Limited Series. Fox is bringing back The X-Files for six-episodes and FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) will be returning as well. Chris Carter created the X-Files TV series in 1993 (ending in 2002) and shepherded two film incarnations to cineplexes (‘The X-Files: Fight the Future’ in 1998 and ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’ in 2008).

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Fox Television Group chairs Gary Newman and Dana Walden had this to say about The X-Files revival:

“‘The X-Files’ was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture — yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as ‘The X-Files,’ and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

The short-run The X-Files series will begin filming on this summer but it has no air date assigned to it yet.
