TV Casting: DOCTOR THORNE, LEGENDS, Viola Davis is HARRIET TUBMAN

Doctor Thorne, Legends, Harriet Tubman, and other TV productions have made recent TV show casting, TV movie casting, and TV directing news. These shows and movies air on ITV, TNT, and HBO.

Legends (TNT)

Winter Ave Zoli (Sons Of Anarchy), Kelly Overton (True Blood), Aisling Franciosi (The Fall) and Steve Kazee (Shameless) have signed on as new series regulars…Ave Zoli…will play Detective Gabriella Laska, whose fierce drive hides behind a free-spirited Bohemian laissez-faire; Overton…is Nina Brenner, a tough, ambitious CIA Intelligence Officer who refuses to cave to pressure from her rival liaison in British Intelligence; Franciosi will play Kate Crawford, whose parents are both Chechen, but she talks and looks like a typical British teenager. She has a troubled relationship with her mother and stepfather, and she’s searching for her own identity; Kazee…plays Curtis Ballard, a role that appears in two time periods – aged 30 in 2001 and mid 40s in present day. Young, Ballard is a by-the-book, clean-living FBI Agent. He is intelligent, private, but not without humor. Later, Ballard is scarred, driven, obsessed after failing to catch a criminal in the past.

The Analyst

Evan Handler (Californication) is set to star in a 10-episode digital series…set inside the CIA’s terrorism finance tracking unit.

Based on an original story by screenwriter J.D. Zeik, The Analyst stars Handler as Kevin Mercer, a CIA analyst targeted by an unknown enemy as he navigates the increasingly murky, dangerous world of financial espionage. The series is comprised of ten eight-minute real-time episodes designed for digital-first audiences.

Harriet Tubman (HBO)

HBO Films has teamed with writer Kirk Ellis…about Harriet Tubman, with Oscar nominee Viola Davis set to portray the famous abolitionist.

Born a slave, she escaped and, via an intricate escape network of secret routes and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad, she led more than 300 slaves to freedom in the North and later fought with the Union during the Civil War.

Hell On Wheels (AMC)

Byron Mann (The Man With The Iron Fists, Rise Of The Legend) has joined the cast of AMC’s Hell On Wheels as a series regular. Mann will play Chang, a powerful businessman and main Chinese labor contractor vying for power in the building of the Central Pacific Railroad. Chang controls the flow of Chinese workers along with their specialized food and sundries, which has allowed him to build a small empire in Truckee’s Chinatown.

Chicago Fire (NBC)

Dora Madison (Friday Night Lights, Dexter) has joined the cast of NBC firefighter drama Chicago Fire as paramedic Jessica “Chili” Chilton. Chili is teamed with Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) following the departure of Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett) who made the decision to move with his family to North Carolina. Chili has an uphill battle winning over the Firehouse 51 family, who are still mourning Mills’ departure…She will guest star in the final three episodes of Season 3.

Law & Order: SVU (NBC)

Vincent Curatola has boarded NBC’s Law & Order: SVU for Season 17. Curatola will play Judge TK, joining fellow Soprano alum Aida Turturro as a rotating member of the L&O Bench.

Doctor Thorne (ITV)

Julian Fellowes is adapting Anthony Trollope’s Doctor Thorne for ITV.

Fellowes is finding time in his busy schedule to write the three-part drama

Set in the fictional picturesque English village of Greshamsbury, Doctor Thorne tells the story of Mary Thorne, niece of the titular village doctor, and her troublesome romantic life.

Confirmation (HBO)

Wendell Pierce has been tapped to play the Supreme Court justice [Clarence Thomas] in Confirmation

Confirmation, from HBO Films, details the explosive 1991 Supreme Court nomination hearings (at which Anita Hill testified), that brought the country to a standstill and forever changed the way people think about sexual harassment, victims’ rights and modern-day race relations.
