WATCHMEN: HBO is Offering All Nine Episodes For Free this Weekend to Honor Juneteenth

HBO Offers Watchmen for Free Starting Tomorrow Until June 21, 2020

With the civil unrest across the country, the anniversary month of the Tulsa, Oklahoma massacre occurring, and the upcoming Tulsa, Oklahoma rally this weekend by United States President Donald Trump, HBO has made available the first season of Watchmen free to watch on HBO.com and On Demand between June 19-21, 2020.

The first episode of Watchmen features the Tulsa, Oklahoma massacre, also referred to as “the Tulsa race riot, the Greenwood Massacre, or the Black Wall Street Massacre.” It took place on May 31 and June 1, 1921.

It has been called “the single worst incident of racial violence in American history.” The attack, carried out on the ground and from private aircraft, destroyed more than 35 square blocks of the district—at that time the wealthiest black community in the United States, known as “Black Wall Street”.

I believe it is very fitting that HBO is presenting this marathon at this particular time, not just because of the Tulsa aspects but because of positive image it portrays of black people and that unity and love have no color.

HBO will offer all nine episodes of the series WATCHMEN for free starting FRIDAY, JUNE 19 through SUNDAY, June 21 exclusively on HBO.com and Free On Demand, as an extension of the network’s content offering highlighting Black experiences, voices and storytellers. The network will also air a marathon of the series on HBO and HBO Latino starting at 1:00 p.m. ET/PT on Friday, June 19.

Set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws, Peabody Award winner WATCHMEN, starring Regina King and from executive producer Damon Lindelof, embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name, while attempting to break new ground of its own.
