Westworld: Season 2 Returning Characters List and First Look Images

Westworld: Season 2’s showrunners have revealed what characters survived the mayhem in the finale episode of Season 1. TV show images of some of those survivors and other images of Season 2 of Westworld have also been released. There are spoilers in these images so if you want to avoid them, do not scroll below.

Before Westworld reached its final Season 1 episode, The Bicameral Mind, many people speculated that Westworld Behavior Engineer Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) could still be alive. When teasers for Season 2 of Westworld began to be released online, this speculation was all but confirmed. Now it has been confirmed. Westworld Security Chief Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) is also alive. Neither of them, according to Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, are happy with their current, physical situation in Season 2. Stubbs fell into the hands of Native American hosts in The Bicameral Mind. That situation, at least at its outset, seems to be continuing in Season 2. Hughes precarious situation has not been disclosed but she is still in the park. Whether that is Westworld, Shogunworld, or some other park remains to be seen.

Also still alive is Executive Director of Westworld’s Board Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson). I sincerely doubted that Westworld’s producers would have brought in such a capable actress, had so carefully set up the animus scenario between Hale and Westworld Founder Dr. Robert Ford, and then got rid of her during The Bicameral Mind (or off-screen). Executive Director Hale surviving the massacre and having to endure the aftermath was a far better comeuppance, whether that fate was directly engineered by Dr. Ford or not.

The Man in Black / William (Ed Harris) has been confirmed to return and was never in doubt but now it has been confirmed. Also confirmed to return is William / The Man in Black (Jimmi Simpson). The latter’s return was in doubt because of the revelations about his character and his storyline in The Bicameral Mind. In Season 2, William’s rise to power inside Delos will be chronicled. I assume William will be making visits back to Westworld as that happens, thus the viewer will see Westworld as it evolves and the public takes increasing note of its attractions.

Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) inexplicable decision at the end of last season will lead her to have Westworld Narrative Director Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) firmly in her clutches. Quarterman says that in Season 2, Sizemore “found himself in the most uncomfortable position he can possibly be in. These hosts have always been props to his stories, and now it’s like he’s become a player in one of his own stories.”

A younger version of Westworld Founder Dr. Robert Ford will appear in Season 2 via flashback. The younger version will be so young that CGI will not be utilized, with Anthony Hopkins voicing him. A new actor will be chosen for the role.

Lobotomized Clementine Pennyfeather (Angela Sarafyan) and Peter Abernathy (Louis Herthum) will both be returning for Westworld: Season 2 as well.

HBO, via Entertainment Weekly, has released new official images from Season 2 of Westworld (click to enlarge).
