The theatrical movie box office results for April 19, 2024 through April 21, 2024 have been released.

The Box Office

Civil War was Number One at the United States box office for the second week in a row with $11.1 Million (a 56% drop from last weekend).

Abigail premiered in Second Place at the United States box office over the weekend with $10.2 Million.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was Third at the United States box office with $9.4 Million (a 39% drop from last weekend) for $171.6 Million so far. Worldwide, the film has made $485.2 Million.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare premiered in Fourth Place at the United States box office with $9 Million.

Spy x Family Code: White premiered in Fifth Place at the United States box office with $4.8 Million.

These films: Kung Fu Panda 4, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Dune: Part Two, Monkey Man, The First Omen rounded out the top ten respectively.

Abigail is a 2024 American vampire horror/ thriller film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick. Based on and a reimagining of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film Dracula’s Daughter, the film stars Alisha Weir as the eponymous daughter of Count Dracula, alongside Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a 2024 spy action comedy film directed, co-written and co-produced by Guy Ritchie, and starring Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding and Alex Pettyfer. Based on the 2014 book Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII by Damien Lewis, the film portrays a heavily fictionalized version of Operation Postmaster.

Spy × Family Code: White is a 2023 Japanese animated spy action comedy film directed by Takashi Katagiri from a screenplay by Ichiro Okouchi and produced by Wit Studio and CloverWorks. It is based on the shonen manga series Spy × Family by Tatsuya Endo.

“A box office or ticket office is a place where tickets are sold to the public for admission to an event. Patrons may perform the transaction at a countertop, through a hole in a wall or window, or at a wicket.

By extension, the term is frequently used, especially in the context of the film industry, as a metonym for the amount of business a particular production, such as a film or theatre show, receives. The term is also used to refer to a ticket office at an arena or a stadium.

Box office business can be measured in the terms of the number of tickets sold or the amount of money raised by ticket sales (revenue). The projection and analysis of these earnings is greatly important for the creative industries and often a source of interest for fans. This is predominant in the Hollywood movie industry.

To determine if a movie made a profit, it is not correct to directly compare the box office gross with the production budget, because the movie theater keeps nearly half of the gross on average. The split varies from movie to movie, and the percentage for the distributor is generally higher in early weeks.

Usually the distributor gets a percentage of the revenue after first deducting a “house allowance” or “house nut”. It is also common that the distributor gets either a percentage of the gross revenue, or a higher percentage of the revenue after deducting the nut, whichever is larger.
