The bio-pic Diana finds a release date. The biopic starring Naomi Watts will have a limited nationwide release on November 1, 2013, Entertainment One announced on Monday. The fall release date lines the film up perfectly in the world of award contention. Diana, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, chronicles the final two years of the princess’ life. The film will have an expanded release in subsequent weeks.
Starring Watts as the Princess of Wales, the film explores Diana’s secret love affair with Pakistanti heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews). The film will span the years 1995-1997.
Hirschbiegel directs from a screenplay by Stephen Jeffreys, the film is inspired by the book Diana: Her Last Love by Kate Snell.
Entertainment One describes the film as “…a window into the tumultuous, change-filled period from 1995-1997 in the wake of Diana’s shattering divorce from Prince Charles and at the moment when she stood on the cusp of a different life, evolving into a global humanitarian, mastering her fame and becoming her own woman.”
