GAME OF THRONES: Season 2: Lisa Nolan quits over Nudity

Lisa Nolan

Lisa Nolan Game of Thrones Season 2 quits over nudity. Lisa Nolan of Game of Thrones: Season 2 nudity quit surprised many, including probably show writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. “Model turned actress Lisa Nolan has abruptly quit her role as a King’s mistress after being asked to bare all for a sex scene in HBO’s dark fantasy Emmy nominated series, returning in early 2012.” Game of Thrones: Season 1 was chalk full of nudity in varying degrees, especially with the women of the HBO show. Emilia Clarke (pictured here: Game of Thrones: Season 1, Episode 2: The Kingsroad Photos), Esmé Bianco (pictured here: Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming: High Resolution Photos), Kate Dickie, and Emily Diamond (pictured here: TV Review/Photos: Game of Thrones: Season 1, Episode 5: The Wolf and the Lion) can all attest to that.

Lisa Nolan had to know what was required of her, what she was in for but she claims a bait and switch.

The 22-year-old Irish model/actress walked off the set after she was asked to strip down despite being promised “no nudity” when she initially signed up to play the King’s mistress earlier this year.

According to HBO Watch, the actress has admitted to knowing the scene would be raunchy, but the experience wasn’t what she expected. Said Nolan:

The 12 hour filming session to her “looked like it was going to basically be soft porn. As well as modelling I study Sports Physiotherapy so I want to be taken seriously, I wouldn’t if I had given in and filmed the scene. It was my own fault really because I didn’t research the show properly. The money was amazing and the idea of it all was so glamorous but I’m glad I walked away because now I have my dignity intact,” she explained.

“The whole experience was surreal. But I was in a totally different environment than what I’m used to. I would love to get into acting but right now I’m not focused on it. So I’m glad the producers of Game of Thrones did contact me for the role, because now I know I have the face for TV,” she said.

She had the wrong show for that. SP is the dominion of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, and most-likely if true-to-form, Spartacus: Vengeance.

“I thought it wasn’t a sex scene and they said they would give me skin patches for my breasts. But when I got there they wanted me to be fully topless and in the scene I had to strip off. So I pulled out at the last minute.”

Some see this as a potentially bad move of her part.

At the end of the day, though, she signed a contract and then she walked out on it. That’s likely to do more damage to her acting and modeling career than a few naked photos.

It could have been a mis-communication between parties but once again, Lisa Nolan should have watched (researched) previous episodes of Game of Thrones. Nudity is rampant in Westeros and the Free Cities.

Other Game of Thrones: Season 2 cast includes:

Stephen Dillane (John Adams, King Arthur) as Stannis Baratheon and Carice van Houten (Repo Men) as Melisandre. More additions include Liam Cunningham (Camelot) as the onion knight Davos, Natalie Dormer (The Tudors) as Margaery Tyrell, Gwendoline Christie as the knight Brienne, Nonso Anozie as a merchant prince, Tom Wlaschiha as the assassin Jaqen H’gar, Roy Dotrice as a pyromancer, Oliver Ford Davies as Maester Cressen, a maester in service to Stannis Baratheon, Ben Crompton (“Man Stroke Woman”) as Dolorous Edd of the Night’s Watch, Michael McElhatton, Robert Pugh, Hannah Murray, and Gemma Whelan as the axe wielding Yara Greyjoy.

If you are new to the series, Game of Thrones is

an HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire”. Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime, Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom’s seven noble families for control of the Iron Throne.

Season 1 of Game of Thrones starred Sean Bean, Mark Addy, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Michelle Fairley, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Iain Glen, Aidan Gillen, Harry Lloyd, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Richard Madden, Alfie Allen, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Jack Gleeson, Rory McCann, Peter Dinklage, and Jason Momoa.

A real actress wouldn’t have a problem with the demands of the role. Has she never seen the first season? Perhaps she should only sign contracts for “family viewing” shows in future.

Im a “real actor” and I wouldn’t either, dont be a moron, its a personal choice and no reflection on your artistic ability, you probably think strippers are artists, the first season has not been shown on mainstream television in Europe yet to my knowledge, and I’m waiting for it,so dont be so quick to judge.

    Go ahead,bitch about my comma’s,clown.

Frankly, there was more nudity in 1st season then there is in the book, but it didn’t upset me. The only thing the bother me about it when you change it from the book to a movie or TV series is it going to make any sense for the change?

  • http://film-book.com/ Film-Book.com

That was the problem. She didn’t watch the first season before signing her contract. All of the girls that have sex on the show are naked to some degree. If she had seen the first season, she would have known that.

  • http://film-book.com/ Film-Book.com

It’s a personal choice and at least Lisa had the “sand” to make it.

“Frankly, there was more nudity in 1st season then there is in the book”

That’s true. I’m on the second book now.

Its been making sense so far. Looking forward to season 2.

Wether or not its been on tv in Europe is irrelevant. A ”real” actor would have requested the studio either send them a copy of the series, bought it online to watch… you know, actually RESEARCH the series before they actually audition. It’s like going to do porn then saying ”OMG… They want me to WHAT?” It’s not like this was prior to 10 whole previous episodes existing.

Again. A real actor RESEARCHES their role first.

  • http://film-book.com/ Film-Book.com

I couldn’t agree more. “A real actor RESEARCHES their role first.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/nickversteeg Nick Vestige

Umm…at least it wouldn’t have been as degrading as doing actual porn. Right? Anyway, I think it should’ve been her responsibility to learn about the show and what would’ve been asked of her on set. The producers probably didn’t elaborate too heavily because they probably thought she knew what the show was all about…

be glad you were offered the role. its hollywood and acting. be proud, its just the human body. drama queen. hope your phone stops ring. b glad you got the job. make a mountain out of a mole hill.

  • etsjedi

Apparantly this is a trend with all of these type of shows like, Sparatacas, Rome, etc.. And if you are joining a show YOU SHOULD DO RESEARCH as to what it is about-remember on that silly dating show with Brett Micheals one of the girls did not know any of his songs!
her agent should be fired for not informing her about what was expected on a show who’s first seasons had plenty of nudity. Now, she will be on the list of Oh, the moron who does not know what’s going on and quits on a production forcing recasts, rescheuduling and increase in budget-pass!

  • Christopher Wiggins

Doing a nude scene that is appropriate to the story wouldn’t have made anyone take her less seriously. Walking out in the middle of a production because she a0 changed her mind at the last minute or b) didn’t have a clue what was going on certainly will though.

As a born-again Christian, I for one, applaud her! YOU GO, GIRL!!! It’s a shame the sheer wickedness of these folks in Hollywierd, but oh, what a wicked world we live in! After all, Rome was BAD ENOUGH the FIRST time around, do WE REALLY hafta relive the sheer moral depravity of that ancient civilization all over again(Sigh!)?!! This is one reason why, when mine & my bro’s DirecTV service is installed next Saturday at our new house (We’re moving), I’m making sure that either a good friend of ours or somebody we can trust (Like our Dad), comes over & puts a good blocking password on the System so’s we can block out GARBAGE channels like SINemax & Hell’s Box Office (Yes, I know the letters actually stand for Home Box Office–duh!–but that’s basically what it SHOULD be called: ‘Cause all of that filth basically comes STRAIGHT FROM HELL & this wicked world around us! Thank The Lord for Christian channels like TBN, GodTV, Daystar, & The Church Channel, to name just a few! Lord knows, WE NEED more channels like that! Laters!).

    Sincerely,

Id bet $10,000 this guy is a virgin. ^^^^

Good luck paying your bills with “dignity”. Nude scenes, if used for a purpose, are a part of acting. Having a “face for TV” means nothing. There are a million pretty girls out there they can put on TV. Walking out on a contract will put her at a big disadvantage over the rest. Maybe she can star in Kirk Camerons next movie.

  • http://twitter.com/NickyBigtime Nick Giannini

Thats probably why the “real actor” above you is most likely still waiting tables.

And what is wrong with that? Why do you feel the need to try and put down someone with ethics and morals? I see your avatar of i assume you and your son. Heaven forbid you try and instill some morals in him

  • N27

    She´s absolutely right

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Wolfe/100003302642543 David Wolfe

There would be nothing wrong with her making a “personal choice” not to appear, if she had researched the material and her role (which she admitted that she did not) more carefully and not signed a contract that she did not take seriously. And as a “personal choice”, many Oscar winning actresses have done nudity and some of course, choose not to do so. But she not only failed to do the research and walked out on her contract, but insulted those actresses who make the choice to do nudity, by saying, at least she left with her dignity intact”. Really? And those that do choose to do nudity forgo keeping their dignity by honoring their contracts and by properly researching and understanding a role they accept, before they sign a contract? I think she has no honor, and it is also very possible that she planned it all, signing a contract and backing out at the last minute in order to get the publicity this story has created.

I don’t understand why you have such a problem with this, is nudity and the depiction of sexuality really so evil? They had plenty of sex and violence in the bible so I don’t see how this is any worse. It seems you just have a problem with this kind of stuff being portrayed on screen. They are portraying a medieval society as violent and sexual, which is what those societies are like. The creators of the show in graphic detail what the times were like and without the nudity and sex, they wouldn’t be doing that.

I also see that you are under this strange idea that society is going to hell, which I don’t entirely blame as that’s what people have been saying for thousands of years. The facts are that murder rates are decreasing, teen pregnancy has been on a decline since the fifties and women have more rights than they used to. In the biblical times people owned slaves, women were told to marry their rapists and people were horribly violent. The bible depicts all sort of atrocities that we in the developed would find appalling. We are not more violent or more sexual than other societies before us, we are just display it more in our media rather than try to hush it up.

You know it isn’t for you to know if he or isn’t he has values I too am a christian and proud of it. people put way too much into needing to see someone’s goodies. wake up and nick you needn’t be a bully same goes for all the other bashers here. but i will state this if this girl had a moral center as she claims she woulda been a little more intuative and realized what she was doing. i think her moral center was blinded by the sin of greed. i hope i am not being judgmental here but it can be hard to tell when making a statement

  • gigi nine

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are perverts i think they want to undress all the women in the show. they half undressed sansa with that rape scene annd next is arya and catherine

  • gigi nine

most of the audience of the show are sex starved geeks that live with their mommas.

  • mrm1138

My question is, when she says she was promised “no nudity,” does that mean there was an actual no-nudity clause in her contract? If so, if the makers of the show were unwilling to shoot without the nudity, she was well within her right to back out. If not, a) she or her agent (if she has one) should have read the contract more closely before signing, and b) the producers should have pointed that out before having her sign. If the producers didn’t let her know beforehand, that’s kinda shady.
