Liam Cunningham, Carice van Houten, Stephen Dillane

Liam Cunningham, Carice van Houten, Stephen Dillane cast in Season 2 of Game of Thrones. Liam Cunningham, Carice van Houten, Stephen Dillane will play Davos Seaworth, Melisandre, and Stannis Baratheon respectively in Season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Liam Cunningham’s Davos Seaworth is “a family man and former smuggler who earned the nickname, the onion knight after successfully sneaking food into Stannis Baratheon’s besieged castle during the war that put Robert Baratheon on the Iron Throne. Stannis knighted Davos for his actions after removing a few fingers in the process for his thievery. In season two, Stannis recruits Davos once more to help him seize the throne from Joffrey.”

Carice van Houten’s Melisandre is “a powerful sorceress and religious prophet who councils the late King Robert’s eldest younger brother Stannis as he returns to contend for the Iron Throne, recently acquired by the maniacal and young Joffrey

Stephen Dillane’s Stannis Baratheon is “brother to the late king and legitimate hire to the Iron Throne.”

Update:  Oliver Ford Davies has been cast as Maester Cressen. Maester Cressen is “a maester in service to Stannis Baratheon.”
