Making a Murderer: Season 2 Production Has Begun

It was announced today that production has begun on the second season of Netflix‘s Making a Murderer. The first season focused on the two murder trials of Steven Avery and the murder trial of Brendan Dassey. The second season of Making a Murderer will focus on Avery and Dassey’s legal teams trying to overturn their convictions and life sentences.

Those legal teams include Kathleen Zellner, Avery’s lawyer, and Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin, Dassey’s lawyers.

Season 2 of Making a Murderer will provide “an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as, the emotional toll the process takes on all involved…as well as intimate access to the families and characters close to the case.”

Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming Lisa Nishimura said in the announcement today that:

“Because of [Laura Ricciardi]’s and [Moira Demos]’ incredible vision, commitment and keen eye, audiences around the globe became completely captivated by the personal stories of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey and the unique lens their experiences provide into the criminal justice system. We’re thrilled to be continuing our longstanding relationship with the filmmakers, and look forward to giving our global viewers eagerly anticipated updates on this story.”

I would have to say that that assertion is accurate. Making a Murderer maybe the best documentary series that I have ever seen. I, like many others, became captivated and binge-watched the entire first season in a single day. Season 1 of Making a Murderer has a “approval rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 35 reviews, with an average rating of 8.6/10.”
