THE FLASH: First Teaser for Arrow Spinoff [CW]

Grant Gustin The Flash

The CW rolls out first teaser TV show clip for The Flash. The CW gave viewers their first look at The Flash in motion, during the Arrow season finale. The short teaser clip features The Arrow (Stephen Amell) drawing & firing on a bulls-eye target, only to have Flash (Grant Gustin), who had been streaking to the scene, all the while, shot block with a mid-air grab. Not entirely amused by the stunt, The Arrow draws three arrows to fire at once.

The Arrow’s prominence in the teaser clip acknowledges The Flash as both a spinoff and contemporary of ArrowThe Flash initially planned as a backdoor pilot from Flash alter-ego Barry Allen’s appearances on Arrow. Whether The Flash will be repaying the favor, with cross-over events on Arrow, remains to be seen.

Personally, I found the teaser kind of silly (and not just because of the Flash suit – it could still grow on me), but that could be a good thing. Even during the initial cameo phase of its development, elements to The Flash had a noticeably lighter touch than its Arrow launch pad. As heavy as Arrow could often be, a lighter touch to The CW’s comic book stable might be a welcomed change of pace.

The Flash also stars Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Rick Cosnett, Danielle Panabaker, and Jesse L. Martin, and will air Tuesdays at 8:00pm, EST, when it  joins the CW lineup in Fall, 2014.
