Keanu Reeves in Negotiations to Appear in Ballerina

Keanu Reeves has been a part of discussions to co-star in the John Wick spinoff film featuring Ana de Armas, Ballerina.

Keanu Reeves recently made headlines when Matthew Perry used Reeves’s name inappropriately to prove a rather obvious point about celebrities that are living and dead. That’s behind Reeves now and he is back in the spotlight as the possibility has arisen that Reeves could be a part of the forthcoming John Wick-spinoff starring Ana de Armas called Ballerina.

Ballerina will be directed by Len Wiseman and is virtually guaranteed to co-star Ian McShane who will be reprising his role as the infamous character, Winston. This upcoming film will be written by the great Academy Award winning screenwriter, Emerald Fennell, and will showcase the unique talent of de Armas who is currently in the running for a potential Oscar nomination herself for her terrific work in this year’s Blonde. If Reeves closes the deal to appear in the new film, it would make for one of the most exciting upcoming projects that are currently in the works.

Wiseman’s project has a plot that revolves around de Armas’ character trying to get vengeance for the death of her family. There aren’t many other details about the story line right now but with that as a starting point, it’s safe to say that Fennell should be able to take the plot in an interesting direction.

Reeves has made his John Wick series one of the most successful movie franchises of the past decade. These pictures tend to feature relentless action that makes them certain fan favorites. The first Wick film from 2014 earned just a B” CinemaScore grade but the two sequels which followed the original picture garnered terrific “A-” CinemaScores which prove the franchise got better as it went along throughout the years. Box-office grosses have also grown significantly with each film in the series. The original grossed just $43 million while the second made $92 million. The third picture in the franchise made an astonishing $171 million domestically. The fourth film will be released early next year.

Just to clarify. Reeves will be playing the character of John Wick in Ballerina if the casting process is successful and Reeves does, indeed, come on board the project. Reeves made many great action films throughout his career such as Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break and Speed early in his career but it is his John Wick movies which have made him a truly relevant movie star these days. There’s no denying the actor’s action movie box-office drawing power and you’ll definitely want to see the fourth John Wick movie in March 2023 while waiting for Ballerina to be unveiled to the public.
