BALLERINA: Seasoned Actor Gabriel Byrne Joins the Cast of Upcoming JOHN WICK Spin-off Film

Gabriel Byrne Close Up

Veteran Actor Gabriel Byrne Comes On Board Ballerina

Acclaimed television and film actor, Gabriel Byrne, has joined the cast of the forthcoming high-profile John Wick spin-off movie, Ballerina.

It’s been a pretty “cool” career thus far for Gabriel Byrne. It just picked up some more traction with Byrne’s casting in the upcoming Ana de Armas action vehicle, Ballerina. While most noted for his work on the show, “In Treatment,” Byrne has established himself over the years as one of the movies’ most reliable talents.

It all essentially started when Byrne played a leading role in the live action/animation combo summer movie, Cool World in 1992. In that movie, Brad Pitt, of all people, played a supporting role. Though that ambitious project fizzled at the domestic box-office, Byrne was in a hit movie a year later, Point of No Return. It was his role in 1995’s hit, The Usual Suspects, however, which propelled Byrne to star status. That 1995 picture showcased Byrne as the character, Keaton, opposite some of Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs at the time: Stephen Baldwin, Benicio Del Toro and Chazz Palminteri. Byrne starred with another huge star at the time, Leonardo DiCaprio in 1998’s The Man with the Iron Mask, playing one of the Three Musketeers–D’Artagnan. Though certainly not a Titanic-size hit, that film made some money. Byrne soon appeared in two big projects in 1999: Stigmata and End of Days.

These days, Byrne is most known to film-goers for his part in the modern day classic Ari Aster horror picture, Hereditary where he played his supporting part against a powerhouse performance by Toni Collette. So, now, what does Byrne’s casting in Ballerina mean for that movie? In a nutshell: prestige. Byrne has always been one of our most underrated actors who quietly took on his roles throughout the years to a great level of success. This new picture with de Armas is a chance for him to return to the type of action role that he had early in his career when he played with Bridget Fonda in the female driven action picture, Point of No Return.

Ballerina will almost certainly have Byrne playing a principal supporting role that could be crucial to the movie’s success from an artistic standpoint. This de Armas movie is not slated for its release quite yet though the new John Wick picture will be out in March 2023. If you need a dose of de Armas to keep you going until Ballerina gets an official release date, check out her Golden Globe nominated turn in Blonde. Byrne fans may want to visit or re-visit his work on “In Treatment” or go back to Cool World where Byrne had a larger role than Brad Pitt who can soon be seen in the big budgeted movie, Babylon.
