Ryan Gosling to Play Ghost Rider in 2028 Marvel Film

Ryan Gosling was announced as the casting choice to play Ghost Rider in 2028’s upcoming Marvel film based on the popular superhero.

At San Diego’s Comic-Con, it was announced that Ryan Gosling is the official choice to play Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in an upcoming Marvel production due out in 2028. Nicolas Cage originated the film role of Ghost Rider almost 20 years ago in 2007. There were a couple of minor box-office hits featuring Cage as the famed superhero and the casting of Gosling looks to further enhance the stories of Ghost Rider in upcoming films to be showcased to the movie-going public at large.

Cage did fairly well in the role of Blaze/Ghost Rider, but new blood is now needed to continue the role. Gosling is married to Eva Mendes, and it wasn’t mentioned whether or not Mendes would come back to the screen to re-play her role from the earlier, first Ghost Rider film. It’s anyone’s guess whether the Stuck on You actress, Mendes, will come back to work on the new Marvel production, but she was said to have planned a return to the screen in the not-too-distant future. Whether this film will mark that return remains to be seen.

Gosling and filmmaker Shawn Levy (Free Guy) are hard at work on Star Wars: Starfighter and will team up again for the 2028 Ghost Rider Marvel movie. Let’s hope their version of the Ghost Rider character yields better CinemaScore grades than the Cage movies did. 2007’s film received a mere “B” while the 2012 sequel garnered a horrific “C+.”

While the first Ghost Rider with Cage saved face with $228 million in worldwide grosses, the sequel sped off with a mere $132 million in worldwide ticket sales, suggesting that the new talent involved in the franchise will have to take things up a notch to secure the upcoming film’s profitability factor.

Shawn Levy is certainly the man for the job when it comes to directing Gosling. Levy worked miracles with Ryan Reynolds on movies like Free Guy and should do the same with Gosling in both the upcoming Star Wars and Ghost Rider pictures respectively.

Comic-Con was the perfect place to unveil the news of Gosling’s casting. This news has been met with warm reception. While Cage may have aged a bit to continue playing Ghost Rider, Gosling has the box-office backing him up time and time again, something that Cage struggled with over his recent working years as an actor. Gosling is coming off hits like the Oscar bait film, Project Hail Mary, and who could forget his turn as Ken in the box-office juggernaut, Barbie? You can catch a re-release of Gosling’s La La Land in theaters this August while waiting for the actor’s upcoming blockbusters to be released.
