SKELETONS: John Goodman Comes Aboard Sony’s Forthcoming Brie Larson Horror Movie

Skeletons to Feature Seasoned Character Actor John Goodman
John Goodman of The Conners fame has signed on to play a key role in the upcoming horror film from Sony, Skeletons.
John Goodman is mostly known for his comedy, but he has done interesting horror movies before. He co-starred in 1998’s Denzel Washington devil of a thriller, Fallen, and, more recently, played a principal role in the creepy 10 Cloverfield Lane about 10 years ago. Now “The Conners” star who once played Fred Flintstone, Goodman, is returning back to suspenseful horror movies with a role in the upcoming film from Sony, Skeletons.
Skeletons is a high-concept idea about the “skeletons in the closet” of a family that seems typical to others on the outside looking in, but is anything but in reality. This film is about a little boy who discovers his family is harboring a secret about his mother. Skeletons will, indeed, be a creature feature and Brie Larson, the Oscar-winner for 2015’s Room, will be at the center of the movie.
JT Mollner will be helming Skeletons which will feature the great Ione Skye (Say Anything) in a minor role in the picture. Kyle Gallner will assume the picture’s other central role, alongside Larson. Goodman will play a supporting role in the proceedings as well.
Goodman has appeared in other movies with Larson in The Gambler and Kong: Skull Island, but it’s hard to remember those films well enough to know if they actually appeared in the same scenes together in those pictures. Goodman has played in countless movies throughout the years, such as Coyote Ugly and the acclaimed Coen Brothers movie, The Big Lebowski, before that. Many expect Goodman to excel in the new Tom Cruise event movie, Digger, which is coming to theaters this fall. Could Goodman receive an Oscar nod? Maybe. Goodman has appeared in award-worthy movies such as the Best Picture Oscar winner, Argo.
Goodman was something of a big box-office draw when he played Fred Flintstone in 1994’s The Flintstones opposite Rosie O’Donnell and Rick Moranis. Goodman’s heart was in television for many years in shows like The Conners, although as a character actor, he racked up quite an impressive series of movie roles throughout his very distinguished film career.
Skeletons places Goodman in the type of role that challenges him. Let’s face it – comedy was usually Goodman’s forte, but the brilliance of Goodman is that he can adapt to dramatic roles quite well even if he plays them less often than comical ones. Goodman’s turn in Skeletons is likely to be one of his more dramatic parts, but don’t be surprised if he gets some comical lines to brighten up what seems like it will be a very dark movie from Sony. Look for more on this project as it develops.
