Paul Rudd in Talks to Star in ANACONDA Reboot Alongside One of Hollywood’s Biggest Funnymen

Paul Rudd To Potentially Star in Anaconda Reboot
The seemingly never aging Paul Rudd could be cast in the upcoming reboot of a fun 1997 creature feature about a huge snake that was called Anaconda.
Paul Rudd and funnyman Jack Black are in negotiations to lead the cast of a probable Anaconda reboot film from Sony. What do these two actors have in common in 2024? They both appeared in movies that under-performed at the domestic box-office this year. Rudd’s Ghostbusters franchise sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire looked like a box-office blockbuster, however, when contrasted with Black’s flat-out belly flop, Borderlands. To be fair to funnyman Black, though, he was heard as the voice of a robot in Borderlands and wasn’t physically in the film.
Not too much of the plot of the upcoming Anaconda reboot has been revealed at the present time. Tom Gormican is set to direct a script which he co-wrote. Gormican previously helmed the hilarious Nicolas Cage spoof that actually featured Cage, himself, in the lead. It was from 2022 and was called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
Anaconda spawned a couple of knock-off movies/sequels that were low budget B-movies minus the star power that 1997’s Anaconda film showcased. The joy of the 1997 movie was seeing the huge snake twist around the bad guy played by Jon Voight although the snake did manage to kill other members of the cast as well. This picture also starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Owen Wilson. It was a movie that audiences probably thought was cheesy but went to see anyway. It made $65 million domestically and another $71 million internationally. It scored a measly “B-” CinemaScore because well…it was a little corny. Whether it was corny or not, audiences these days need a reboot. There hasn’t been a good snake movie in a while and what better way to reboot the genre than with an Anaconda film?
Paul Rudd has been known throughout the years as an actor who hardly ages. He still looks as appealing now as he did in the 1990’s when he made movies like Clueless and the Jennifer Aniston starrer, The Object of My Affection. Black hasn’t aged quite as well but still has a blast when he voices a character such as Bowser in the smash hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It seems like he also enjoyed working on Borderlands but we won’t talk about that right now. Black has also been dabbling in talks about a possible School of Rock sequel.
A reboot of Anaconda is just waiting to rejuvenate the snake comedy/horror movie genre. If Black and Rudd are cast, you can bet it will help create interest in what long seemed like a dead film property. Anaconda could just score at the box-office over two decades after the 1997 film. Hey, almost three decades but who’s counting?
