SNL 1975: Gabriel LaBelle Cast as Lorne Michaels in Upcoming SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Origin Movie

Gabriel La Belle The Fabelmans

The Fabelmans Star Cast as Lorne Michaels of SNL Fame

Gabriel LaBelle has been cast in the principal role of Lorne Michaels in a movie centered in 1975 which is about the uprising of “Saturday Night Live.”

He played Steven Spielberg in the Oscar-nominated movie, The Fabelmans, and now, rising star Gabriel LaBelle is taking on another real-life artist in the forthcoming SNL 1975. Based on the behind-the-scenes events that helped propel America’s favorite comedy show to legendary status, LaBelle is not the only one who has been cast in the new project. Cooper Hoffman of Licorice Pizza and Rachel Sennott of Bottoms have also been cast in pivotal roles in the upcoming film from Sony. Hoffman will be portraying Dick Ebersol while Sennott will take on the part of Rosie Shuster.

Jason Reitman will be directing SNL 1975 and he is, most likely, the perfect person to helm a movie based on such a fascinating real-life story. Reitman is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker who has made several stories about every day people overcoming tremendous obstacles in life– see Juno or Up in the Air, which are two of Reitman’s best movies. The acclaimed director is also penning the script for the forthcoming picture alongside scribe Gil Kenan.

The new movie will focus on the opening night of “Saturday Night Live” with all the wild antics and nerve-wracking details that went into creating the premier American comedy show. The script of the picture is based on real events which were chronicled from interviews that were done by the writers with the living cast and crew of the first “Saturday Night Live” show.

Gabriel LaBelle won the hearts of Americans playing a character inspired by Steven Spielberg in The Fabelmans. He came onto the scene in 2022 big time playing that role and won many accolades from critics for his heartfelt work in the movie. Rachel Sennott is one of the funniest actresses of her generation and starred in the terrific laugh fest from last year, Bottoms. Cooper Hoffman won fans over, himself, in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza and is one of the most energetic and personable up-and-comers working today.

SNL 1975 will be a huge Oscar-bait type of movie if all goes as planned. It’s one of the most ambitious projects that Reitman has ever taken on. “Saturday Night Live” is one of the most acclaimed comedy shows of all-time and has stood the test of time as week after week, fans look forward to seeing skits that have fun with current events and pop culture. The use of a host and musical guest to help generate interest week after week is a key way to keep viewers tuning in as some cast members stay constant for a series of seasons.

LaBelle, Sennott and Hoffman could all find themselves in potentially Oscar-nomination worthy roles given the possible depth Reitman could bring to the characters if Reitman is in top form with his work on SNL 1975.
