Avatar: Fire and Ash premiered in First Place at the United States box office over the weekend with $89.1 Million. Worldwide, the film has made $347.3 Million, on a production budget (not including marketing costs) of $350-400+ Million.

David premiered in Second Place at the United States box office with $22 Million. Worldwide, the film has made $22 Million, on a production budget (not including marketing costs) of $60.9 Million.

The Housemaid premiered in Third Place at the United States box office with $19 Million. Worldwide, the film has made $19 Million, on a production budget (not including marketing costs) of $35 Million.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants premiered in Fourth Place at the United States box office with $15.6 Million. Worldwide, the film has made $15.6 Million, on a production budget (not including marketing costs) of $64 Million.

Zootopia 2 was Fifth at the United States box office with $14.8 Million (a 43% drop from last weekend) for $283.1 Million so far. Worldwide, the film has made $1.27 Billion, on a production budget (not including marketing costs) of $150 Million.

These films: Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Wicked: For Good, Dhurandhar, Hamnet, and Marty Supreme (which premiered this weekend) rounded out the top ten respectively.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is a 2025 American epic science fiction film directed by James Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver from a story the trio wrote with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. Distributed by 20th Century Studios and produced by Lightstorm Entertainment, it is the sequel to Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and the third installment in the Avatar franchise. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet reprise their roles from the previous films.

David is a 2025 animated biblical musical adventure comedy-drama film featuring the character of David from the Book of Samuel in the Old Testament. The film stars the voices of Phil Wickham, Brandon Engman, Asim Chaudhry, Mick Wingert, Will de Renzy-Martin, and Lauren Daigle. It is a follow-up to the five-part television miniseries Young David and tells the story of a young Israelite shepherd, poet and warrior who is predestined to become the new King of Israel. He embarks on a journey from beyond the shadow of an evil Philistine giant named Goliath to prove to his people that true power lies not in a kingship but in faith and freedom.

The Housemaid is a 2025 American erotic psychological thriller film co-produced and directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine, based on the 2022 novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. The film stars Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, and Elizabeth Perkins. Its plot follows a young woman with a troubled past (Sweeney) who becomes the live-in housekeeper for a wealthy family (Seyfried and Sklenar). Their seemingly perfect life unravels when she discovers their household hides dark secrets.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is a 2025 American animated adventure comedy film based on the SpongeBob SquarePants television series, created by Stephen Hillenburg. Directed by series veteran Derek Drymon, it stars the show’s regular voice cast alongside George Lopez, Ice Spice, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, Regina Hall, and Mark Hamill. The plot follows SpongeBob on a quest to prove his bravery by adventuring with the ghost pirate, The Flying Dutchman, through The Underworld. It is the fourth theatrical film based on the series, following 2020’s Sponge on the Run.

The History of Box Office (and Profit Measurement)

“A box office or ticket office is a place where tickets are sold to the public for admission to an event. Patrons may perform the transaction at a countertop, through a hole in a wall or window, or at a wicket.

By extension, the term is frequently used, especially in the context of the film industry, as a metonym for the amount of business a particular production, such as a film or theatre show, receives. The term is also used to refer to a ticket office at an arena or a stadium.

Box office business can be measured in the terms of the number of tickets sold or the amount of money raised by ticket sales (revenue). The projection and analysis of these earnings is greatly important for the creative industries and often a source of interest for fans. This is predominant in the Hollywood movie industry.

To determine if a movie made a profit, it is not correct to directly compare the box office gross with the production budget, because the movie theater keeps nearly half of the gross on average. The split varies from movie to movie, and the percentage for the distributor is generally higher in early weeks.

Usually the distributor gets a percentage of the revenue after first deducting a “house allowance” or “house nut”. It is also common that the distributor gets either a percentage of the gross revenue, or a higher percentage of the revenue after deducting the nut, whichever is larger. The distributor’s share of the box office gross is often referred to as the “distributor rentals”, especially for box office reporting of older films.”
