The theatrical movie box office results for September 1, 2023 through September 3, 2023 have been released.

The Equalizer 3 premiered in Number One spot at the United States box office over the weekend with $34.5 Million so far. This is a surprising good debut for the third The Equalizer film.

Barbie was Second at the United States box office for the third week in a row with $15.1 Million (a 29% drop from last weekend) for $609.5 Million so far. Worldwide, the film has made over $1.38 Billion.

Blue Beetle was Third at the United States box office for the second week in a row with $7.2 Million (a 40% drop from last weekend) so far.

Gran Turismo was Fourth at the United States box office over the weekend with $6.5 Million (a 62% drop from last weekend) so far. In week three of its release, Gran Turismo will most-likely be out of the top five at the box office.

Oppenheimer was Fifth at the United States box office over the weekend with $5.5 Million (a 33% drop from last weekend) for $308.5 Million so far. Worldwide, the film has made over $852.9 Million.

These films: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Bottoms, Meg 2: The Trench, Strays, and Talk to Me rounded out the top ten respectively.

Gran Turismo (subtitled Based on a True Story in some countries) is a 2023 American biographical sports action drama film directed by Neill Blomkamp from a screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. Produced by Columbia Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and 2.0 Entertainment, it is based on the racing simulation video game series of the same name developed by Polyphony Digital. It tells the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a teenage Gran Turismo player who became a professional race car driver. The film stars Archie Madekwe as Mardenborough alongside David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Darren Barnet, Emelia Hartford, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Djimon Hounsou.+

Retribution is a 2023 action thriller film directed by Nimród Antal and written by Chris Salmanpour. The film stars Liam Neeson, Noma Dumezweni, Lilly Aspell, Jack Champion, Embeth Davidtz, and Matthew Modine. It is a remake of the 2015 Spanish film El desconocido, which follows a man (Neeson) who gets trapped in his car after receiving a threat that it will explode should he get out.

The Hill is a 2023 American biographical sports drama film about baseball player Rickey Hill overcoming a physical handicap in order to try out for a legendary major league scout. It was directed by Jeff Celentano from a screenplay by Angelo Pizzo and Scott Marshall Smith. It stars Dennis Quaid, Colin Ford, Joelle Carter, Randy Houser, Jesse Berry, Bonnie Bedelia and Scott Glenn.

“A box office or ticket office is a place where tickets are sold to the public for admission to an event. Patrons may perform the transaction at a countertop, through a hole in a wall or window, or at a wicket.

By extension, the term is frequently used, especially in the context of the film industry, as a metonym for the amount of business a particular production, such as a film or theatre show, receives. The term is also used to refer to a ticket office at an arena or a stadium.

Box office business can be measured in the terms of the number of tickets sold or the amount of money raised by ticket sales (revenue). The projection and analysis of these earnings is greatly important for the creative industries and often a source of interest for fans. This is predominant in the Hollywood movie industry.

To determine if a movie made a profit, it is not correct to directly compare the box office gross with the production budget, because the movie theater keeps nearly half of the gross on average. The split varies from movie to movie, and the percentage for the distributor is generally higher in early weeks.

Usually the distributor gets a percentage of the revenue after first deducting a “house allowance” or “house nut”.
