The films in the Top Ten that opened this weekend at the box office:

The Woman King is a 2022 American historical epic film about the Agojie, the all-female warrior unit that protected the West African kingdom of Dahomey during the 17th to 19th centuries. Set in the 1820s, the film stars Viola Davis as a general who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies. It is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Dana Stevens, based on a story she wrote with Maria Bello. The film also stars Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, and John Boyega.

Pearl (subtitled An X-traordinary Origin Story) is a 2022 American slasher film directed by Ti West, and co-written by West and Mia Goth, who reprises her role as the title character. David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro feature in the supporting cast. A co-production of A24 and Little Lamb Productions, it is a prequel to X (2022) and serves as an origin story for the villain.

See How They Run is a 2022 mystery comedy film directed by Tom George, written by Mark Chappell, and produced by Damian Jones and Gina Carter. The film stars Sam Rockwell, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson, Reece Shearsmith, Harris Dickinson, and David Oyelowo.

Moonage Daydream is a 2022 documentary film about English singer-songwriter David Bowie. Written, directed, produced and edited by Brett Morgen, the film uses previously unreleased footage from Bowie’s personal archives, including live concert footage. It is the first film to be officially authorized by Bowie’s estate, and takes its title from the 1971 Bowie song of the same name.

Next week sees the release of: Don’t Worry, Darling, Moonage Daydream, Catherine Called Birdy, The Infernal Machine, and a plethora of other films. Find my predictions on these releases in the weekly The Bottom Line column. A preview: Clerks III will be Number One at the box office.
