BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY (2025): Romantic Comedy Sequel Bypasses Theaters for a Valentine’s Day Premiere on Peacock

Bridget Jones Mad About The Boy

Fourth Bridget Jones Film to Skip Theaters to Premiere on Peacock

Renee Zellweger will be back in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy which you’ll be able to see on Peacock in your living room on Valentine’s Day 2025.

Universal isn’t taking any big chances with the latest Bridget Jones picture. They’re skipping a theatrical release in the hopes that couples may want to cuddle on the couch while watching the latest romantic comedy in the successful series on Peacock this coming Valentine’s Day. Oscar-winner Renee Zellweger will reprise her title role as Bridget in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. She received an Oscar nod the first time she played the part back in 2001.

2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby wasn’t a hit at the domestic box-office although it did just fine overseas. Still, it has been eight years since that film so maybe Universal is thinking that instead of taking a financial risk by premiering the newest film in theaters, they’ll play it safe by letting it stream on opening day where it will most likely be the movie of choice for Valentine’s Day for people staying home that very romantic night of the year.

There’s plenty going on in the latest (fourth) installment of the popular dramatic comedy series. In the plot, Bridget’s husband (Colin Firth) has passed away. This leaves her going back into the dating pool all the while being a single mom in the interim. Like in the last film, two men “duke it out” for Bridget’s affections. They’ll be played by Chiwetel Ejiiofor and Leo Woodall, respectively. Hugh Grant will also be back in the cast to add fuel to the romantic fire and (hopefully) prove he’s not as creepy as he was in the great new film, Heretic. It has been stated that Colin Firth will also appear in flashbacks in the latest picture.

Helmed by Michael Morris (To Leslie), this new chapter in Bridget’s life will be humorous and touching per the norm for this very appealing franchise which last time had a couple of fine songs peppered into the soundtrack. Last time, Ellie Goulding was prominently featured on the soundtrack with her terrific hit song, “Still Falling For You.” It may be interesting to see if the new chapter will bring back the Patrick Dempsey character from the third installment of the franchise although I wouldn’t hold my breath in that particular regard.

Again, this new Bridget Jones picture will make audiences guess who Bridget will ride off into the sunset with. Without banking money on it since I haven’t read the books, I’m hoping she’ll end up with Hugh Grant’s character, Daniel Cleaver. Who do you want Bridget to spend her later years with romantically?
